Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Thursday January 7th, your child’s classroom will participant in virtual presentation called Safetouch offered from UnityPoint--St. Luke’s Child Protection Center. Safetouch is a child abuse prevention program that utilize videos, instruction, and conversation to teach children about guidelines on what constitutes a “safe touch.” We will teach children that no one has the right to give them a touch they don’t want and what to do if that does occur. The short program will be presented virtually by a representative from St. Luke’s Child Protection Center and facilitated in the classroom by your child’s teacher or the counselor.
Presentations will include:
- JK/Kindergarten: “Joey Learns the Touching Rule”
- First Grade: “It’s Your Body: You’re In Charge”
- Second/Third Grade: “You Are in Charge of Your Body”
- Fourth/Fifth Grade: “Sexual Abuse: It’s Not Your Fault”
Classrooms will also participate in a discussion about how children have the right to feel safe at all times, the difference between good, bad, and secret touches, and who they can go to if they need help, such as talking to their parents or trusted adult. While the “Safetouch” program is an effective teaching tool, reinforcement and support from parents about safe touches is extremely beneficial to children. If you would like to receive more information about “safe touches” or if you have any questions about this program, please call the school office at 319-362-3021.
If your wishes are for your child to not participate in this presentation, please email me at
aconlon@stmatthewcr.org by 8AM tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Conlon
