The church deliberately has a voice in the body politic and asks its members to advocate for just policies and governance, just as Dr. Martin Luther King did. At the same time, the church refrains from endorsing specific candidates and parties. It is her moral authority that calls everyone to the best version of themselves and in that spirit, we invite you, whether you voted for the new president or not, to pray for him using the words of the following prayer offered by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops:
Dear Lord,
assist with your spirit of counsel and fortitude
the President of these United States,
that his administration may be conducted in righteousness,
and be eminently useful to your people over whom he presides.
May he encourage due respect for virtue and religion.
May he execute the laws with justice and mercy.
May he seek to restrain crime, vice, and immorality.
We ask this through your holy name. AMEN.
