Dear Parish Family,
On the Church calendar this Sunday, we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord; may this day remind each one of us of our own baptismal promises and our place in the Community of believers in Christ. On the secular calendar, we celebrate Martin Luther King Day on Monday. As we remember his message of peace may we pray for our nation and our city. Monsignor John Roeder, Pastor of St. Thomas Apostle in the early 1960's, Marched with Dr. King. May you have a reflective and restful MLK Day.
January has arrived with promises of inclement weather ahead.
Masses are never cancelled. The Priests offer the Sacrifice of the Mass ,whether people are present or not, for the glory of God and the salvation of souls. Fortunately, we have easy access to the church from the rectory.
We cannot guarantee that our sidewalks will be clear immediately following an ice or snow event. The priests and volunteers try their best to clear the sidewalks as soon as possible. Sometimes more ice and snow arrives right after the snow or ice has been cleared the first time around. Those who are interested in volunteering to shovel snow, come by the church after a snowfall. Shovels will be gladly provided.
Please use extreme caution, prudence, and good common sense when deciding whether to come to Mass during and after inclement weather. Devotion is admirable, but please do not put yourselves at risk of a fall or accident and do not endanger others when coming out. It is far better to wait until things are clear and not get in the way of snow and ice removal.
We have Mass live-streamed from the parish at 10.30am on Sundays nd 8am Monday-Friday. A link to our parish Facebook page where the Mass is recorded can be found on our parish website at https://stthomasapostledc.org.
Our office staff follows the Federal Government rules and so if the government is closed due to the weather, the parish office will be as well.
Your servant in Christ,
Father Richard
