Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
In reviewing the current numbers of in-person and remote learners, we are considering a change to the instructional model for the third quarter, which begins on Tuesday, January 19.
In the proposed change, in-person learners would attend school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Parents would still have a five-day remote option for their children with synchronous learning occurring. For families who select the in-person learning option, students may only join class virtually on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday if they:
- exhibit COVID symptoms or are COVID positive;
- require quarantine;
- lack transportation due to parent illness;
- experience a death in the immediate family;
- need recovery time from surgery;
- submit a doctor's note that indicates virtual schooling is required for an extended period.
Wednesdays will be used as a Student Support Day with both in-person and remote learners required to be available from home via Google Classroom. Class times on Wednesdays will operate on a B schedule, with Period 1 beginning at 10:00 a.m. and Period 9 ending at 2:55 p.m. This time would allow for more personalized instruction during the class period, either at the request of the teacher or at the request of the student. Individual teachers are currently determining the structure of Wednesdays’ support periods, which will be customized to their specific class and modified as the quarter progresses.
On the survey below, please indicate your third-quarter preference for schooling by Monday, January 11 at 8:00 a.m. This data is critical as the Elyria Catholic community determines whether we can safely implement this model in individual classrooms for the start of the third quarter. If you have difficulty accessing the survey, please send your preference to attendance@elyriacatholic.com with your name, student(s) name, and grade level(s).
Please know that on behalf of the Elyria Catholic administration, faculty, and staff, we thank you for your support and understanding as we all continue to navigate the COVID-19 crisis and provide the most feasible learning options for your student.
All good wishes,Annie Heidersbach, President
