Dear Parishioners,
Today is the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord.
Jesus allows himself to be baptized by John the Baptist to show his solidarity with all of humanity. He is like us in all things but sin, according to St. Paul and the teaching of the Church. Because he is the Second person of the Trinity he had no need for baptism.
,
By being baptized, Jesus initiates the Sacrament of Baptism. By entering the water He makes the waters Holy rather than the water cleansing Him. When He comes up out of the water the prophecy of John the Baptist is Fulfilled. “The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” Then the Holy Spirit descends upon him. And then the culmination of the Sacrament of Baptism – “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you, I am well pleased.” we become Children of God.
Baptism is about entering into a relationship with the Trinity. Let us renew our baptismal commitment as we deepen our relationship with the Son through our spiritual Communion, be filled with the Holy Spirit (the Love of God) and receive the power to become the Children of God that we are created to be. God became one with humanity so we could become one with God in the person of Jesus Christ through the celebration of the sacraments.
Thank you for your generous physical, spiritual, and financial support to our parish. You are a blessing to our community.
Let us continue to pray for each other and with each other as we share the message of God's Divine Mercy in 2021!
I remember you and your families in my Masses.
Merry Christmas.
May God bless you.
