Pray for our nation
How can we, as a nation, resolve our differences and heal? I’m not sure what the answer is but I know some things that are not solutions. Storming the capitol is not a solution. Acts of violence, be it physical, verbal, or psychological, is not a solution. That is not what we are about as Americans…or at least, I hope not. This past week we saw a deadly act of violence in the very building where we gather to make our laws. As we reflect on this mob action, there are several thoughts that come to mind:
-unchecked anger leads to violence.
-respect for order and law is essential for a nation to survive.
-justice is what should govern our nation; not mob rule.
-people must be respected. This includes those who disagree with us.
-truth is truth. Lies, deceptions, or half-truths are manipulative and do not serve the common good.
This past week we saw some sad events carried out by some angry people. It was not a peaceful protest, but the act of a mob. This week we inaugurate a new president. He will be the legitimate, constitutional leader of the nation. Pray for our nation that we may be spared more violence, and pray that we will find ways to resolve our differences and heal the divide. May the American people be a people who abhor violence and build justice and respect for all.
