Good Afternoon!

As we prepare to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. tomorrow, I feel that it is important that we remind ourselves of his primary message. There continues to be a massive divide in our country that only seems to be getting worse. With the inauguration this week and the events of two weeks ago, all we seem to hear about are how our country is pulling apart. This is where Dr. King's message is so important, because his message was one of unity. Of recognizing all of our brothers and sisters as children of God rather than black or white (or republican or democrat). This is the same message the Jesus shared with us. This is the only way to find unity. To stop attacking our differences and instead embrace Christ in each other and use that love to work through our differences. I ask that we all reflect on this message and share it with our children. Right now, they need to be reminded of what makes us so good, rather than always hearing what makes us so vulnerable.

We have a lot coming up in the next couple of weeks with Catholic Schools Week being next week. This week is short as we will be out on Monday and Friday. Please look at the information below regarding our service project and our fundraising effort for Catholic Schools Week. Also, please remember to complete your family poster that was sent home last week. Those need to be returned by Tuesday!

We continue to have a full school which is great! Thank you for all of your help making this happen. As COVID cases continue to be high, it is encouraging that we don't have any students, staff, or family members who are currently in isolation. This makes the learning so much better and we want to continue with this amazing trend!

As part of our Catholic Schools Week festivities, we will be doing a fundraiser to support the Nunley and Mahoney families who have been affected by cancer. 

James Nunley is the 6 year old son of Angela Nunley who worked at SHS from 2017-2019. James has been diagnosed with Leukemia and is in the process of receiving treatment at Children's Mercy. The money will go to help support the family during this time.

The Mahoney's are parishioners and have 3 kids at SHS (Bridget) and the Child Care Center (Jack & Liam). Megan has been receiving treatment for a rare form of cancer for over a year now. We will be making a donation to cancer research on their behalf. 

We will be asking the students to bring in money and to put it in a jar representing Mrs. Garriott, Ms. Hosack, Mrs. Vore, Mrs. Blaufuss, Mrs. Nuessen, Mr. O'Neill, and Father Farrar. We will begin this Tuesday and will last until Thursday of Catholic Schools Week. On that Thursday, the money will be counted and the person who has the most money in their jar will get to kiss a goat that afternoon!
