Dear Parishioners,
We are blessed to be able to have the support and consolation of our faith during this time.
Today we return to ordinary time after journeying through the Seasons of Advent and Christmas. This is a time of growth and maturity in our faith.
The Gospel begins with John the Baptist seeing Jesus and saying that He is the Lamb of God. That is all John's disciples needed to hear to go and follow Jesus. Why?
The Lamb was the sacrificial offering made to God to protect the people and to take away their sins. The Pascal Lamb was offered on the night when the people of Israel were freed from slavery in Egypt. The Prophet Isaiah uses the imagery in relation to the Messiah who would go like a Lamb to the slaughter, who would take the sins of the world upon himself.
Today John points to Jesus as says this is the one for whom all of Isreal has been waiting - The Lamb of God.
We echo John's words prior to receiving the Eucharist. Lamb of God, You take away the sins of the world. Then in preparation to receive communion the priest say Behold the Lamb of God. Like John's exhortation to his disciples, this is a clarion call for each of us to follow the only one who can bring salvation to all of humanity.
Thank you for your generous physical, spiritual, and financial support to our parish. You are a blessing to our community.
Let us continue to pray for each other and with each other as we share the message of God's Divine Mercy.
I remember you and your families in my Masses.
May God bless you.
