The word of God is living and effective, able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
God knows what is in your heart. So, what is in there? Last night, at my youngest son’s baseball practice, he was called a “ret*rd” for wearing a mask. What was God able to discern in the heart of the young man who said that to my son? Was that a heart of love and fraternity or a heart filled with anger and disrespect? For many years, I served alongside a physician who hailed from Africa and many times I would hear from patients derogatory statements regarding the color of his skin. What was God able to discern in the heart of those individuals who used racial slurs? Was God seeing hearts of love and compassion or racism and bigotry? What about your heart? What’s there when you think of the other political party? A different denomination? A competitor? A former colleague? A former friend? An immigrant or refugee? One who thinks differently about COVID or masks or vaccines? God’s word is living and God is able to discern what is in your heart...what will be found? Love, compassion, kindness, and mercy for all races and nationalities and peoples? Or animosity and anger and hatred? Let us look with love upon all, my sisters and brothers in Christ, as we are ALL children of God regardless of our color, politics, beliefs, or background! Amen!
