My Will or God’s Will?
Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will. (Ps 40:8a,9a)
Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will. In these words, our voices echo the voice of the psalmist, but are we really ready to do this? It is a question that all of us can ask and answer ourselves. One day we will have to stand before Jesus and answer for our actions and omissions. So it is imperative that we think about it now, and live our lives accordingly. May our actions today, as well as our words, demonstrate that, indeed, Jesus is the true Light of the world and the way to salvation. Let us take to heart the words of the Psalm and wholeheartedly profess–Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will. We do this by offering ourselves in humble love and service to others.
Prayer to Do the Will of God
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. There will I trust you always, though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone. (Thomas Merton, mystic)
Hail Mary full of grace…, St. Joseph, pray for us.
