Pope Francis proclaimed this year as the Year of St. Joseph. This will be an exciting year as we all learn more about St. Joseph. Each month there is a theme taken from the Litany of St. Joseph. In January, we know St. Joseph as the...
Most Valiant Protector of the Church.
St. Joseph had the entire Church under his protection because the Holy Family was the Church. Our Lady is the Mother and Image of the Church, the Holy Spirit the soul of the Church and Christ the Church’s head. To Joseph this treasure was entrusted and by his wit, his obedience, and his sacrifice he valiantly defended them.
“He is the guardian and protector who, together with his vocation to be the foster-father of the Redeemer, received from divine Providence the mission of protecting his growth in wisdom, age and grace.” – Pope Saint John Paul II, March 1993
PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH, PROTECTOR OF THE CHURCH
St. Joseph, husband of Mary and foster father of Jesus,
you have been charged with the protection of the universal Church
so that you might care for all the children of the Kingdom in the same
way you lovingly cared for the members of the Holy Family.
From heaven, where you now live with Jesus and Mary,
Guide and protect the people of God walking toward fullness of life.
Bring together from the four corners of the world all your children
so that they may live in one Spirit. Lead all Christians to unity in the same faith.
Obtain for the Holy Father, for all our bishops, and for all the faithful, who
with them, form the Church community, the graces of enlightenment and
strength so that all may live in the teaching of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
