Radiant Skin
As Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant in his hands, he did not know that the skin of his face had become radiant while he spoke with the LORD. Exodus 34:29 | NABRE
On Mount Sinai, Moses was in a close communion with the Lord, the foretaste of heaven. "The skin of his face has become radiant." The peace and strength, compassion and wisdom of God shone from the eyes and countenance of this "Ish Elohim", this "man of God." Such close communion with divinity was too much for the Israelites. They distanced themselves and Moses had to call to them from afar. He even began to wear a veil over his face. Most of us do not want a God as close as this, one who continually calls us to peace and forgiveness with our neighbor, to strength and fidelity with moral principles, to compassion towards those who harm us, day by day, even moment by moment. That is why relativism becomes an easy way of life for many. We choose to maintain a distance from God, rather than desire to be in communion with Him. We don't want to be challenged to come out of our own comfort zone to walk an extra miles with others.
When was the last time you were in communion with God?
What keeps you away from Him?
Prayer to Love God above all Things
God, my Father, may I love You in all things and above all things. May I reach the joy which You have prepared for me in Heaven. Nothing is good that is against Your Will, and all that is good comes from Your Hand. Place in my heart a desire to please You and fill my mind with thoughts of Your Love, so that I may grow in Your Wisdom and enjoy Your Peace. (Catholic Online Prayer)
Let your face radiant with joy today!
Peace always,
