Our [very unscientific] prediction is that 98% of people's brains shouted "May flowers!" before even clicking to open this email. Some things are just so ingrained in our memory we don't even have to think about it!
The same thing happens during the Mass– we sometimes find ourselves rattling off the next words automatically.
During the Creed, your mind may be trying to remember whether you left the garage door open and in that same moment your voice is saying, "...I believe in one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church." But what is it we saying we believe in...what exactly is the Church? (Hint: it's not a building.)
