Please see the below message from Mrs. Clarahan in regard to Valentine's Day in 5th Grade:
Dear 5th Grade families,
Mrs. Horak and I have discussed a Valentine's Day party for 5th grade. It was not on our radar hence the reason why no communication had been sent out prior to now. On my end, I have been working to secure a teacher for the remainder of the year. I am pleased to say we do have a teacher beginning on Monday, February 15. However, this news will NOT be shared with students until tomorrow. I will send you communication with the name of the teacher after I have shared with the students.
Mrs. Horak and I are working with the new teacher to help her transition. There is a lot to cover regarding students, curriculum, JMC, FlockNotes, routines, procedures, etc. It is a lot to take on in the middle of the year, however, I feel confident that our staff will make the transition seamless, positive, and provide what is needed. Our main focus has been on academics, and allocating extra time for reteaching in math and providing emotional support for students as they deal with Mrs. Kling's unexpected absence and resignation.
With Catholic Schools week, snow days and late starts, we have lost some instructional time. We value academics and we value the emotional well being of our St. James students and are working diligently to provide a balance during this difficult time for our fifth graders.
Mrs. Horak and I have decided on a plan for a Valentine's Day celebration on Friday, February 12th. Students will decorate brown paper bags this week in art, and can bring in Valentine's Day cards. However, with our mitigation procedures in place, food, candy, etc. is not allowed. While this is different from "traditional" Valentine's Day parties, we believe taking a little time to celebrate the holiday will be much needed, while also maintaining our high standards of academic excellence.
Thank you for your understanding and your support.
