Dear Parish Family,
Lent is nearly here! The holy season of 40 Days begins with Ash Wednesday on February 17th. How do we live well this time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving? We should do so as if it were our first, last, and only Lent. We take more time to pray and then we sacrifice by giving something up, something that will affect us and make the sacrifice real. Covid has given us what seems to be a year-long Lent, but the liturgical season creates a time for us to be with the Lord for 40 days in the desert, journeying with Him in prayer. Lent is a time to grow closer to Christ and his teaching, so that when Easter comes, we find ourselves prepared to celebrate the great gift of the Resurrection. As part of our Lenten observation, we have confessions in the Church from 7-8 on Wednesdays in Lent and Stations of the Cross (Bi-Lingual) at 7pm on Fridays.
Ash Wednesday Masses will be at 7:00am (Latin), 8:00am English, 12 Noon (English) and 6:30pm bilingually, English and Spanish. This year, in accord with the directives of the Archdiocese of Washington, ashes will be distributed in a contactless manner by sprinkling them on the head rather than applying them to the forehead.
Beginning Sunday night after the 7:30pm and finishing at 7:00pm on Tuesday, February 16th, we will have our 40 Hours devotions of continuous prayer and adoration with the Blessed Sacrament. The church will be left continuously open night and day for prayer during that time. Please stop in.
Thank you for wearing your masks when you come to Church.
Your servant in Christ,
Father Richard
