This week we welcome seminarian Karl Discher to St. John the Evangelist as he begins a pastoral year with us. Karl graduated in May from Catholic University in Washington, DC where he lived at St. John Paul II College Seminary. He is discerning his vocation to the priesthood in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and is a native of St. Ignatius Parish, Hickory, in Harford County. Please extend a warm welcome to Karl when you see him this weekend - and pray for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life!
Things to Know Before You Come to Church This Week
This weekend Sr. Linda Larsen will be speaking about our ministry to the sick and homebound. Perhaps God is calling you to visit those who are in the hospital or who live in one of our many area nursing homes, senior living facilities, or who are confined to their homes so that they are able to receive Holy Communion on a regular basis. Please think and pray whether God may be calling you to this ministry that keeps our elderly or infirm parishioners connected to the Church.
Fr. George Asigre is being recalled by his bishop to his native Ghana. A Farewell Mass and Reception will be celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 11 AM. Come as we send off this faithful servant of the Lord. Gifts received will support Fr. George's ministry back home. A New Season of Alpha begins September 12! Alpha provides a great environment to explore the basic questions of God, faith, and life. Go to www.stjohnsp.org/alpha for more information. Think about someone you can invite to attend - particularly those who may be struggling with faith. Alpha is for everyone: Catholic or not, Christian or not, churchgoing or not, strong in faith or struggling with questions ... Pass the word!
Save the Date! Parish Picnic on Sunday, August 27 at 12:15 PM on the back fields of the parish grounds. Bring your favorite non-alcoholic beverage and a dish to share! Hamburgers and hot dogs provided. Come explore the area of our recently acquired property, including The Hermitage which now houses our St. John's Artisan League and also provides meeting space.
