These are unexpected words from a loving God. We see in the reading that Jesus is testing the faith of the Canaanite woman. While the disciples are encouraging Jesus to send her away, she persists in her plea for mercy to rid her daughter of the demon. And after Jesus’ harsh words to her, she refuses to be shamed. Her love for her daughter and faith in the healing power of Jesus gives her the courage to persevere in the face of rejection. Jesus recognizes the depth of her faith and grants
her petition - her daughter is instantly healed.
How strong is our faith? Are we persistent in our prayers? What are we doing to grow our faith?
We have a great opportunity here at OLL for you beginning in September. Join us for the Alpha course that will meet every Monday evening and explore the Christian faith in an informal and friendly environment. We’ll begin with a meal, followed by a talk and small group discussion time. It’s free and all are welcome. Invite your friends and neighbors as we journey together for a deeper faith and love for Jesus Christ. Next weekend, we’ll have a short presentation about the Alpha course and a chance to sign-up.
