Caesar vs. Jesus
After Jesus rose from the dead, the early Christians bolted around the world proclaiming, “Jesus is Lord!”
Those words might not alarm us today, but in the first century, the term “Lord” was reserved exclusively for Caesar, the Roman emperor.
So by calling Jesus “Lord,” the early Christians were making a provocative claim: there’s a new king in town, and he is not Caesar Augustus. His name is Jesus of Nazareth.
