JOURNEYING
TO HOLY WEEK
AND THE NEW LIFE
OF EASTER
As we enter into the final weeks of Lent and transition to the Paschal Triduum (Latin for "three days"), we find ourselves in the most sacred time of the Church Year. This season, from sunset on Holy Thursday to sunset on Easter Sunday, is the shortest liturgical season of the Church's calendar.
The website of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) says: "The summit of the Liturgical Year is the Easter Triduum. . . . Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ's Paschal Mystery.
"The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the Lenten season and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil."
The services that take place during the Triduum are: the Mass of the Lord's Supper (Holy Thursday); Good Friday of the Lord's Passion (the Liturgy of the Lord's Passion and Death, with Holy Communion); and the Solemn Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday night) and the Mass of the Lord's Resurrection (Easter).
To highlight these days, St. Joseph's is sponsoring a program this week entitled
