Happy Easter everyone! For the second year, I have not had the pleasure of presiding over the Great Easter Egg Hunt for our children. Last year, I prepared almost 2,000 Easter Eggs for the children of Payson and, sadly, we had to cancel it due to the pandemic.
I ended up giving them away in baskets to those who came to our “parking lot” masses!
Needless to say, the children still enjoyed it!
While it is fun to have an Easter Egg Hunt, the best news of all is that JESUS IS RISEN!
Together with Him, we share our own “resurrection” from the “mire of sin and death”!
Let us look intently into our hearts and see how Jesus’ resurrection has meant to us.

Cleaning and Reorganization Has Begun!
One of the most exciting things a pastor can do when he takes over an old parish is the process of cleaning up and reorganizing.
This has begun at Sts. Peter and Paul!
We started to open up drawers and cabinets in the sacristy and have found not only a lot of “trash” destined for the dumpster but also valuable and historical church treasures.
No, we didn’t find gold and a hidden cache of cash but, importantly, beautiful old vestments, pictures and books.

Someday, when a diocesan museum is built, there will be quite a few things we can share.
Meanwhile, we have discovered so much space that can be utilized properly once we get the sacristy renovation going.

Landscaping Project! I have been discussing a project with Frank Herran, the Knights of Columbus Grand Knight, a possible project that will see much needed improvement of the Lee St. and Norris St. sides of the parish.
Luckily, one of our Knights is a landscape designer who has given us valuable insights as to what we can do.
When plans are made, we will ask for volunteers to join us in beautifying the frontage of our Parish Office and Rectory.

A Most Unusual Holy Week!
While the Covid numbers have gone down, we continue to adhere to our safety protocols as mandated by our Diocese and the Holy See.
I would like to thank all of our Priests, Deacons, Staff and Volunteers who have helped us prepare for this “most unusual Holy Week”.
I am sure we all look forward to the time when we can continue with our time honored traditions and liturgies during Holy Week.
Meanwhile, let us give thanks to God for helping us preserve our faith in this time of challenge.
