How Can You Not Believe?
Most historians and Scripture scholars agree that no other document from the ancient world has been backed up by such excellent testimony than the Bible. And so, the truth is that the resurrection of Christ is more reliable than most other facts of ancient history.
Fact: Jesus died on the cross. He was scourged, made to carry his cross, nailed through his hands and feet, hung on the cross this way for three hours and died (and to make sure he was dead he was thrust through his side with a spear). Fact: His body was placed in a tomb, the tomb was sealed and then guarded. How could anyone have moved a large stone and taken his body when the tomb was guarded? In fact, the Apostles all fled and were in hiding- afraid that they would meet the same fate as Jesus. Fact: When the tomb was found to be empty, the cloth covering Jesus’ head was folded neatly in a place by itself- not the actions one would take during a theft of a body. Fact: There is no account of Jesus body being found in the Bible or any other historical document. Fact: When he appeared to his Apostles he ate and drank with them (a hallucination or ghost can’t do this). Fact: Jesus not only appeared to Mary Magdalene and the Apostles but there are Scripture passages which tell us that he appeared to as many as 500 people at one time. Fact: The Apostles suddenly went from hiding and frightened men to claiming Jesus rose- 11 out of 12 of them were martyred (suffered cruel deaths) claiming Jesus rose. They would not have gone to this extreme for a made-up
story.
As if this weren’t enough, John the only Apostle not martyred, included this story in the Gospel as further proof for those who still had doubts, as Thomas did who said, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” Jesus came and appeared to Thomas and invited him to put his finger into his nail marks and Thomas cried, “My Lord and my God!” To which Jesus said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”
The question for all today isn’t “How can you believe?” but rather, “How can you not believe?

Divine Mercy Sunday
Join us on Sunday April 11th, at 3 PM to celebrate
Divine Mercy Sunday.
Jesus told St. Faustina that this Feast of Mercy
would be a very special day when
“all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened".
Our Lord made a great promise to all souls who go to Confession and then receive Him in Holy Communion on the Feast of Divine Mercy, the Sunday after Easter.
They will receive great mercy and grace.
Together we will sing and pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
I hope to see you there!
Adoration Every Friday after Mass!
Something that is very important to both Fr. Ford and I, is Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We both are deeply devoted to Jesus in the Eucharist. Prayer, especially in front of the real presence of Our Lord, is what supports and blesses the work we do at St. Gregory. Without regular and devout prayer in the presence of Our Lord, a Parish will truly suffer. Therefore, we will offer Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for one hour (from immediately after the 8 AM Mass to 9:30 AM). Going forward this will continue every Friday. I encourage you to help bring blessings to both our Parish and your personal life by joining us for this Holy Hour.
Thank you ahead of time for your interest and prayers!
Weekly Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy!
The theme for our Parish and school this year will be, “Jesus I trust in You!”
These are the words found at the bottom of paintings of the Divine Mercy of Jesus.
In thanksgiving to Jesus and asking for His and Mary’s continued blessings and
protection this year, we’re adding two weekly devotions to our Parish Calendar. First, we will recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy every Friday at 3 PM with the Blessed Sacrament exposed.
Second, we will pray the rosary every Monday at 9:30 AM, asking for our heavenly
Mother’s intercession. The children of our school will livestream and participate from our school (others may do so as well), and parishioners are encouraged and most welcome to attend. I truly believe in the power of prayer and that these additions will bring many blessings to our Parish and School!

2020 Arise Annual Catholic Appeal
I am immensely grateful for your support last year to the Diocese of Bridgeport’s 2020 Annual Catholic Appeal. What a challenging year it was and thanks to the generosity of so many we were able to serve thousands of Fairfield County individuals and families through our ministries and programs. Catholic Charities alone served over 1.2 million meals since the pandemic began.
This week you will receive information by mail about our 2021, Arise
Annual Catholic Appeal and how your support assists the ministries and programs our parishes cannot provide to the community on their own. We cannot do it without you and I am immensely grateful for your support of works of Faith and Ministry; Education and Catechesis; and Charity and Pastoral Services the Appeal provides to all people in the Diocese of Bridgeport.
To donate and get further details on the Appeal go to 2021ACA Bridgeport.com
