What a beautiful celebration we had to begin the Easter season!  Mrs. Skaggs kindergartners opened Mass with an “Alleluia!   Christ is risen!”  Msgr. Jack reminded us of Easter’s presence at Mass:   white vestments, the Easter candle, the Alleluia, flowers, and butterflies.  All these are signs of the joy of the fifty-day season!  After reading the Road to Emmaus Gospel story, Msgr. Jack reminded us that the disciples who encountered Jesus only recognized him when he broke the bread.  Msgr. likened the story to our wearing of masks; we often don’t recognize others’ faces under the face coverings.  Msgr. Jack posed this question to us: will others recognize Jesus in us by what we do?  People recognize who we are by what we do.  When we do things of Jesus, we are Jesus people.   And we are all called to be Jesus people.

As part of our focus on the Mass, Msgr. emphasized that the Lord’s prayer was Jesus’ response to the apostles when they asked him how they should pray.  Msgr. announced that the Our Father is the perfect prayer because it joins us in the past (forgive us our trespasses), our present (give us this day our daily bread), and the future (as we forgive those who trespass against us).    

Mr. Remes’ class will lead next week’s Mass with the fifth and sixth graders joining them at Mass.  In preparation for the upcoming outdoor Mission Carnival, we’ll examine our call as Christians to be missionary people.  “Because we have been blessed, we are called to be a blessing.”  As part of our Faith in Action program, we pray to be the hands and feet of Jesus.   On Friday, April 23, we’ll play outdoor games to support the Montfort Missionaries and their work in Haiti.   Many thanks to our seventh graders, who yearly plan this service project for our school.

Many thanks to all the students who celebrated Msgr. Greg’s recent milestone anniversary and birthday by making cards.  We sent a bag of Easter and birthday cards to Msgr. Greg at the Mother of Good Counsel Home, where he resides.  Many thanks too to those very generous people who supported this week’s collection for the Sisters of St. Joseph and their trip to help at Annunciation House, a hospitality house for migrants and refugees at the Texas border.  We sent home five boxes of supplies with the LaBarges.   Thanks, too, to the amazing generosity of our fifth graders, who collected toy and monetary donations for Melissa’s Hope Orphanage in Haiti.
