Each week I search the best of the internet for sacred choral music that aligns with the Weekend's scripture readings and post several selections on our website at Choral Music Worth Hearing.
The Lord is My Shepherd. Shepherd Me, O God. Shepherd of Souls. My Shepherd is the Lord. All songs we may hear this Good Shepherd Sunday, called thus for the many references to Christ as Shepherd in today's readings and antiphons.
Jesus knows his sheep.
And we sing songs to Him, assuring Him of our love in return.
Some of the more recognizable melodies associated with this text are posted on our main site. However, I've just discovered a new setting of Ego Sum Pastor Bonus (I am the Good Shepherd; note: Pastor=Shepherd) by up and coming Polish Catholic choral composer, Pawel Lukaszewski.
Not only am I impressed by the boys' singing, but the church is gorgeous to adore as well while listening.
It's the kind of choral music that I always enjoyed singing when I was in community choirs. Edgy. Challenging. And highly musically satisfying.
And the motif on Ego sum pastor bonus gets stuck in your head.
And when that happened my thought was - well, that's like a little choral meditative prayer, isn't it?
It's linked below. Enjoy.
