Hello Everyone!
Our week was spent celebrating children's talents, imagination, creativity, friends & differences. Do we all look the same? Talk the same? Like the same things?
An old favorite of mine, "Puff The Magic Dragon" kicked off the week. This book wasn't read. Instead Peter Yarrow sang the story to us (on CD of course :-) )! We talked about Puff & his adventures with Jackie Paper . Are dragons real? Can you have fun with imaginary friends? Why does Puff feel sad when Jackie Paper doesn't come to play anymore? Here are some of the answers:
"Maybe Jackie grew up & didn't have time to play."
"Yeah! If he's a daddy now maybe he wants to play with his kids."
"Maybe Jackie found a new friend? - Interesting thoughts!
Artsy Tuesday began by reading "The Dot" by Peter A. Reynolds. Speaking of talking the same: Mrs. A read this story to us in Spanish! Of course the students who speak Spanish at home were delighted to hear this.
I read the same story in English & everyone was intrigued about Vashti! This little girl was just not inspired to be an artist! But her art teacher convinced her to start...with a dot! The art teacher framed the dot & hung it up behind her desk!? We decided: Each one of us can be an artist!
Our follow-up activity that day: Be an artist - outside!
Large sheets of paper were clipped to the fence. Children put on their paint shirts, took a brush, dipped them into paint & created away! It was fun to watch everyone paint at the same time! And Mr.Lopez was glad we left the mess outside :-)
Thank you for sending a paint shirt along with your child for this activity!
Reading Buddies helped end this week on a great note. They had a good time reading a variety of books to little listeners on Thursday.
Mrs. A & I are looking forward to more fun in learning with your child!
