Use It or Lose It
Take care, then, how you hear. To anyone who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he seems to have will be taken away. (Luke 8:18)
Jesus instructs us to take great responsibility to His message. The blessings of God’s truth must be treasured and shared, since whoever neglects or ignores them will lose them. As you have heard the expression “Use it or lose it,” if you don’t exercise, you will experience muscle atrophy. If you don’t use your mind, it will stagnate. The same holds true of our spiritual life. Jesus tells us that it isn’t enough to listening to His message. We must to put it into practice. By acting upon our belief, we can make a difference. If Jesus were to ask you right now-- what are the hardest passages in the Bible for you to carry out? Why? What would be your answer?
- “Be still and know that I am God!” (Psalms 46:10)
- But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on [your] right cheek, turn the other one to him as well. (Matthew 5:39)
- Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, [love] is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
- No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew 6:24)
- Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." (Luke 9:23)
- Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” [imitating Mary’s Yes] (Luke 1:38)
Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life!
