Mother is a woman who shares with God the greatest gift and power of this earth, the mystery of creating life.
Mother is a woman who gives the first loving embrace to her new life.
Mother is a woman who always seeks to understand and befriend that life—in its tender years of youth, in its difficult years of adolescence, and in its maturing years of adulthood.
Mother is a woman who is patient when all others seem to give up hope—it is she who stands,and waits, and hopes.
Mother is a woman who beyond all times and persons never ceases to love.
And so today, as we stand in awe and wonder we say:
to those mothers who experience great reward and happiness,
to those mothers who for one reason or another experience sadness, loneliness, or rejection,
to those mothers who have suffered tragedy and are grief stricken,
to those mothers who as yet have only promised and who wait this great power to be fulfilled within them;
to all mothers…Thanks.
We pray that for ages yet in God’s plan, woman will continue to have the courage to say “yes”, to say yes to that privilege that woman and only woman can realize, to bring forth new life.
God the Father, through His Son, the Virgin Mary’s child, has brought joy to all Christian mothers as they see the hope of eternal life shine on their children. May He bless all mothers. May they give thanks to God for the gift of their children and may they be one with them in thanking Him forever in heaven through Christ Jesus our Lord. AMEN.
I do not know the author of this tribute to mothers. What I do know is that there are some things that are unique to them. The richness, beauty, and life that they give can never be repaid. It is true that not everyone has or had a loving mother; hopefully God sent someone to fill that role. Yet, even if the only gift one receives is the chance to live, there is reason to be grateful. This weekend as we celebrate Mother’s Day, take time to say a prayer for the woman you call mom.
