From the desk of Msgr. John P. Bell:
A new decree has been received from Bishop Burns giving pastors the discretion to determine proper gathering and seating requirements for their respective parishes. In his decree the Bishop stated that there is no longer a specific capacity limit nor is there any requirement to leave every other row empty during Mass. However, the pastor should also establish a space that provides a fully “socially distanced environment” for those with concerns about gathering.
In light of the above, the following will be the protocol and guidance at Our Lady of Angels effective Saturday, May 8, 2021:
OLA will no longer require reservations for mass attendance and will dispense from the reservation system
Sections A and B will be open seating (NO social distancing in front of the music/choir and ambo areas)
Sections C and D will be safe seating with every other row roped off and social distancing enforced
Ushers will monitor the attendance and the entrance doors will close when capacity is reached
Ushers will continue to direct communicants in single file to receive communion
Ushers will continue to dismiss by section at the end of mass
Virtual worship aids will continue to be the norm
Face masks will continue to be required and must be worn at all times
I am pleased to announce implementation of these adjustments to welcome more people back to mass.
