When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to scoff, but others said, "We would like to hear you on this some other time." (Acts 17:32)
One of the elements that apparently divided some of the early Christians was the notion of the resurrection. Today's first reading indicates that Paul's preaching on the resurrection received mixed reviews.
Despite the controversy over the resurrection, the Easter season is the affirmation that is absolutely, umcompromisingly central to Christian faith. The appearance stories of the Risen Jesus defy logical explanation. Nothing, however, can fully explain how a small group of frightened apostles, huddled behind locked doors in the city where their Master was crucified, could be transformed into the bold evangelizers they became. Their faith was neither in an empty tomb nor a vague recollection of what Jesus had taught. It was rooted in an experience of Jesus Christ alive and leading them onward. Only the resurrection can explain this dramatic change.
How has the Resurrection of Our Lord transformed you?
