How Much Do I Love You?
Man has always tried to define the extent of how much love can be given. Poets, philosophers, writers have tried to express these in words. The Saints and many modern-day heroes have, however, expressed this with their actions and, many times over, even at a cost of their own lives.
St. Maximilian Kolbe, in the horrors of the Nazi extermination camp, exchanged his life for someone whom he knew had a family to care for.
MotherTheresa gave up the safety and serenity of the convent walls and trod the streets of Calcutta caring for the poorest of the poor.
Mahatma Gandhi willingly suffered the indignity of racism to pursue a peaceful path to change the life of millions.
Then, there are the unnamed, who continue to unselfishly give of themselves to care for the elderly, the children, the sick and dying in our homes, hospitals, hospices, and home care facilities.
Many more continue to defend and protect the right to life of the unborn - sometimes at the risk of persecution and ridicule.
Yes, indeed, to say “I love you” is easy. But to show it in our actions sometimes prove to be more difficult.
