Come Holy Spirit
“But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.” (Jn 16:13)
In yesterday’s gospel, Jesus is speaking to his disciples at the Last Supper. He knows that he will soon be arrested and put to death. Jesus knows that what He is telling them is a lot for them to comprehend. He promises them that he will send the Holy Spirit to be with them after he is gone. “But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.” (Jn 16:13) They will not be left alone. It is with the help of the Holy Spirit that they will be able to understand God’s message as it unfolds.
For us too, the Holy Spirit gradually unfolds God’s message so that it speaks to us at the appropriate times in our lives. He speaks to us when our hearts are open and ready to receive his revelations. With all of noise from the world around us, we must make time to listen for his guidance. We must place ourselves in a position of listening through prayer and meditation. When we pray, we should ask for guidance and understanding and to align our will with God’s will. Let the Holy Spirit guide us to the Truth. As you pray today, ask yourself, “What is God trying to say to me today”?
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And You shall renew the face of the earth.
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit,
did instruct the hearts of the faithful,
grant that by the same Holy Spirit
we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations,
Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
