Seventh Sunday of Easter
Dear Students and Parishioners:
So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them,
was taken up into heaven
and took his seat at the right hand of God.
But they went forth and preached everywhere,
while the Lord worked with them
and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.
As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord this weekend, we remember that even as Jesus departs from his earthly dwelling not to abandon us, but to fulfill the will of the Father. Jesus remains with us in many ways: in Sacramental presence, in the Word, and in the Church’s apostolic activity and work of evangelization.
This coming weekend – Pentecost Sunday, we welcome the evangelistic work of the Spiritan Fathers. The Spiritans (officially Congregation of the Holy Spirit) have been invited by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Mission Office to visit St. Mark’s University Parish as part of the 2021 Mission Cooperation Plan (MCP). The MCP is a national program in which annually a representative of one of the missionary groups visits parishes inviting them to share in the mission work of the universal Church through a second collection.
This year, because of the current health crisis, missionaries are not able to make in-person visits as in years past. Instead, I will read a letter from the pulpit about the missionary work of the Church and in particular, that of the Spiritans.

Séptimo domingo de Pascua
Estimados estudiantes y feligreses:
Entonces el Señor Jesús, después de hablarles, fue llevado al cielo y se sentó a la diestra de Dios. Pero ellos salieron y predicaron en todas partes, mientras el Señor trabajaba con ellos y confirmó la palabra a través de señales que la acompañan.
Al celebrar la solemnidad de la Ascensión del Señor este fin de semana, recordamos que incluso cuando Jesús se aparta de su morada terrenal no para abandonarnos, sino para cumplir la voluntad del Padre. Jesús permanece con nosotros de muchas formas: en la presencia sacramental, en la Palabra y en la actividad apostólica y evangelizadora de la Iglesia.
Este próximo fin de semana, domingo de Pentecostés, damos la bienvenida a la obra evangelística de los Padres espirituales. Los Spiritans (oficialmente Congregación del Espíritu Santo) han sido invitados por la Oficina de Misiones de la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles a visitar la Parroquia de la Universidad de St. Mark como parte del Plan de Cooperación de la Misión (MCP) 2021. El MCP es un programa nacional en el que anualmente un representante de uno de los grupos misioneros visita las parroquias invitándolas a compartir la obra misionera de la Iglesia universal a través de una segunda colecta.
