Hi families,
This is Chris. Before I start explaining the "amazing opportunity", it is important that you understand that I am not the person to contact about the trip. I am going to tell you everything I know in the next few paragraphs. If, as you read more, you are interested in learning more about this summer camp opportunity, you need to contact Tom Silliker, the youth minister at Prince of Peace parish in Ormond Beach.
He is the trip leader. As of this moment, right now, I will not be attending this trip.
So, here is everything I know from talking with Tom today:
Prince of Peace has a few open spots for their Edge Summer Camp trip to Life Teen Camp Hidden Lake
July 12th- 17th. If you would like to know more about Life Teen summer camps: Click here
https://lifeteen.com/camps/home-away-from-home/
Who is eligible to attend? Any student who will start 6th grade in the fall, 7th graders, 8th graders, and any student who just graduated from 8th grade.
Prince of Peace, in their generosity, has instituted a "pay what you can" program.
What does that mean?
Life Teen Camps charge the parish $540 per individual (campers and chaperones).
To get the teens to camp in north Georgia, the parish needs to charter a bus or rent vans depending on how many teens attend. This cost can range anywhere between $1,600 to $4,000. This cost is shared per participant.
And, the parish doesn't charge chaperones. ($540 each)
Holy Spirit has needed to charge up to $800 a participant in years past to cover all costs.
Prince of Peace would like everyone to "pay what they can". They are covering the cost of transportation and the chaperone fees. They would like everyone to pay at least 50% of the camp fee. Which is $270.
So, $270 for a $800 trip.
Amazing opportunity. A week at summer camp with accommodations, all the food (at camp), Mass everyday, great faith filled talks, games, etc...
Of course, if you can afford to pay the entire $540 or a larger percentage than 50%, you should. You definitely should.
Additionally, Prince of Peace understands that some folks are really hard hit right now and cannot afford even the $270. Tom says to give him a call if that is the case for your family. He will try to work with you.
So there it is.
