Spotlight on Ghost Guns - United Against Gun Violence | Brady - San Francisco Chapter: Healing 4 Our Families & Our Nation

In 2020, homicides in the Bay Area’s largest cities surged by more than 35%. In San Francisco, the use of ghost guns in crimes has risen sharply in the last few years, now comprised of more than one-third of crime guns. These untraceable guns are purchased without background checks or waiting periods. However, there are things we can do about this situation.
On May 11, Supervisor Stefani introduced an ordinance, which will ban un-serialized ghost gun parts and kits in San Francisco. The SF Chapter of Brady United Against Gun Violence worked closely with Supervisor Stefani in developing the proposed ordinance. (See
https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2021/05/11/san-francisco-supes-to-vote-on-ghost-gun-ban/.)
Join Supervisor Catherine Stefani, Police Chief William Scott, and Brady’s Steve Lindley, former Chief of the California Dept. of Justice’s Bureau of Firearms, to learn more about the unique threat of ghost guns and how we can all help San Francisco fight back.

Root & Rebound: Reentry Advocates
Artist Line-up! Voices for Justice: On Tribal Justice
Join Root & Rebound on June 10, 6:00pm - 8:00pm PT for Voices for Justice: On Tribal Justice, a fundraiser to support our work with Native communities! Throughout the evening, we'll be raising awareness about Tribal Justice and centering Native American artists and activists to shine light on Indigenous peoples’ struggle with, and resilience in spite of, systemic violence and oppression perpetuated by the U.S. legal system.
Native men, women and youth are overrepresented at every stage of the criminal justice process, from arrest to sentencing, incarceration to reentry. Yet they are rarely front and center in conversations about criminal justice reform. That needs to change. And that is why Root & Rebound has worked with the Yurok Tribe and surrounding Northern California tribal communities to provide critical legal services for the last 5 years, create educational resources, and advocate together for systemic reform. Voices for Justice: On Tribal Justice aims to support this work, and to break the silence around the impact of the criminal legal system on Native communities.
