Holy Trinity Sunday
30 May 2021
Dear St. Joseph Parish Family,
Today we celebrate one of the central mysteries of the Faith: the Most Holy Trinity. God through the Incarnation of the second Person of the Trinity, Jesus Christ, revealed that He is not alone divine person isolated in heaven. In fact, heaven itself is the inner life of God Himself and is comprised of three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who are the One True God. In revealing His nature as a Trinity, God is revealing His own inner life as three Divine Persons who are the One God. We would never have been able to guess what God is like – how could we even dare a guess as to what the God who creates and sustains all existence could be like in Himself? However, He has chosen to tell us.
His revelation is important because heaven, our destiny in Christ, is itself nothing but living with God in eternity – living within the inner life of God. We know our destination is not with an isolated divinity who is cold and unapproachable, but a Divine Trinity. God is Love because within the Divine Trinity Love exists among the three Divine Persons, and in fact, the Holy Spirit is the bond of love between Father and Son. God is not only all-powerful and all-knowing but also all-loving. We hope in that divine Love and Mercy who call us to join God in heaven.
Next week we celebrate Corpus Christi (The Body of Christ). Holy Trinity Sunday always follows Pentecost, and the following Sunday is always Corpus Christi on the liturgical calendar. This Corpus Christi we are reviving an old tradition at St. Joseph's and the wider Church: we will have a Corpus Christi procession around the block after the 11:30 am Mass. Please join us!
God Bless,
Fr. Boniface
