Parish Update -- May 28, 2021
Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph and Corpus Christi:
We will celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity this coming Sunday. It's also Memorial Day. We remember those who have died in service to their country in the U.S. Military. We pray for the repose of their souls and for all of the faithful departed. Let us also continue to pray for our veterans and for peace throughout the world.
1. Congratulations to Edee Kate Simmonds, the daughter of Heather and Tom Simmonds, who was baptized last Sunday, May 23, here at St. Joseph.
Also to Jovito Trejo, the son of Jovito Trejo and Guadalupe Montoya, who was baptized last Saturday at Corpus Christi in Macon
2. Bishop Latino -- Some sad news. We just received word today that Bishop Joseph Nunzio Latino died this morning. Please pray for the repose of his soul. Bishop Latino was bishop of the Diocese of Jackson from 2003 until 2013. This past week, Bishop Latino celebrated 58 years of priesthood.
3. Sympathies for Flo and Greg Henley -- Flo lost her mother, Edith Weisenberger Harkins, last Monday and the funeral was this past Thursday at St. Therese in Kosciusko, MS.
4. Vocation Retreat -- Fr. Nick Adam and the Diocese of Jackson Vocation Department will host a retreat for young men between the ages of 15 and 25 years of age. The retreat will be June 22-24. If you are interested, or know anyone who might be, please let them know about this opportunity.
5. Stained Glass Windows -- Pearl River Glass installed our next two windows -- St. John Henry Newman and Sr. Thea Bowman. Bob Hudson, the installer, can be seen working in the picture below.
6. No First Saturday Mass -- There will be no First Saturday Mass next Saturday, June 5, 2021. I will be out of town.
7. Mike Kassouf Vocation Breakfast -- The Knights of Columbus will be hosting their vocation breakfast next Sunday in the Parish Hall after the 9 AM Mass. All proceeds go to Seminarian Support. Donations are gladly accepted.
8. Memorial Day -- The Church office will be closed for Memorial Day.
9. Summer Hours -- Beginning next week the Church office will be closing at 2 PM every day during June and July.
10. Vacation Bible School -- VBS will be June 21-24 from 8:30 until 11:30 AM every day. It is open to children ages 5 to 4th Grade. Please contact Deacon Jeff (deaconjeff@stjosephstarkville.org) if you are interested in signing your children up.
11. Parish Survey -- If you haven't already, please fill out our parish survey.
12. Quilters are back -- Lou Ann Vasek & Co. are back quilting on Sunday's at 1:30 PM in the Parish Center. Come take advantage of the opportunity and learn how to quilt or learn some new techniques.
13. Religious Education Survey -- We've also been sending a survey regarding Religious Education at St. Joseph. Please help us by taking some time to fill it out.
14. Live Stream Ending -- This will be the last weekend that we will be able to Live Stream. David Garraway has very generously been filming every week for over a year now. He stepped up to help us and offer
