St. Mary Plans for the Year of the Eucharist - June 2021 to June 2022
This weekend begins the Archdiocesan-wide celebration of the Year of the Eucharist. The Liturgy Committee is developing plans for activities throughout the next 12 months to heighten our awareness of the gift of the Eucharist. Beginning this weekend we are adding two changes to Sunday Mass - the recitation of a Prayer to Jesus in the Eucharist before Mass begins and a meditative musical interlude after Communion. Watch for more events in coming months!
Prayer to Jesus in the Eucharist
O Fire of Love!
Was it not enough to gift us
With creation in your image and likeness,
And to create us anew to grace in your Son’s blood,
Without giving us yourself as food,
The whole of Divine Being,
The whole of God?
O Boundless Charity!
Just as you gave us yourself,
Wholly God and wholly human,
So, you left us all of yourself as food,
As bread and wine,
So that while we are pilgrims in this life,
We might not collapse in our weariness,
But be strengthened by You, heavenly food.
Let us recognize You, as your disciples did,
At the breaking of the bread,
So that the Eucharistic Communion will truly be
The light that dispels darkness,
The force that sustains us
The unique joy of our hearts.
