3. Have a go to ritual that you look forward to when anxiety is too much. You could call a friend, have a cup of tea, or read a few pages of a novel.
Clean up Your Diet: 1. "Bribe yourself into eating vegetables": Find a salad dressing or dip you love and you'll be more likely to eat your vegetables. I do this daily with Sabra lemon hummus. I enjoy dipping my celery, red/green peppers or carrots into the hummus. The crunching also helps with any stress you are having. 2. Store fruit at front of the fridge. The minute you open the fridge, the fruit is ready to eat. 3. Portion out nuts: Nuts are very healthy for your diet. They are a great source of plant based protein. The key is not eating too many. Take a large bag/jar of nuts and portion out into zip lock snack bags. This way you get a healthy snack in the right amount. Conquer Loneliness: Call one long-lost friend a week. Especially during the pandemic, we have lost contact with a lot of our parish friends. I did reach out to a number of parishioners recently who I had not seen since the pandemic started. It has been heartwarming to see them return to Mass and catching up with all that has gone on in their lives this past year and a half. It can be a call or it can be a letter, but take the initiative to take the first step. It's a great gift and a way to cure loneliness.
One last health tip that I mentioned a couple of weeks ago: Last Thursday within an hour, I received a phone call and a text from a former nurse colleague friend and from a parish friend that both had been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. My colleague is in her 50's and my parish friend is in her 40's. Thankfully, both were diagnosed early via mammograms and are receiving effective treatment. They are both strong and believing women and by the grace of God will persevere in this life challenge. PLEASE GET YOUR ANNAUL MAMMOGRAMS DONE NOW.
