Please Pray for Marcia Hochdorfer
Our sister in Christ, Marcia Hochdorfer, has gone to eternal rest this past week. You might have seen Marcia in the front office where she worked faithfully since the parish's inception in 1999. She will be dearly missed. Funeral arrangements are still being made. An update detailing Marcia's funeral Mass will come next week via the Funeral Notices group on Flocknote.
Father’s Day Novena of Masses
Our Father’s Day Novena Masses consist of 9 consecutive days of Masses for the intention of our fathers, living or deceased. On the outside of the envelope are printed lines for you to write down the names of the fathers you would like remembered in our Novena Masses. They can be your biological father, husband, step-father, God-Father, etc. There are more lines on the back of the envelope too. After writing their name, please insert your donation for the Masses in the envelope and place it in the offertory basket this weekend, or drop it off at the church office no later than Friday, June 11, 2021, as our Novena Masses begin on Saturday, June 12, 2021.
A novena means nine consecutive days of public or private prayer for a special occasion or intention. Its origin goes back to the nine days that the disciples and Mary spent together in prayer between Ascension and Pentecost Sunday.
To make a novena means to persevere in prayer asking for some favor over a period of nine days in succession or nine weeks in succession. It means fulfilling our Lord’s teaching that we must continue praying and never lose confidence. This confidence is based on our Lord’s words: “Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For whoever asks receives; who- ever seeks finds; whoever knocks is admitted." ( Lk 11: 9-10)

Saint Bonaface
Feast Day - June 5
c. ~680 A.D. - 754 A.D.
Winfred (nicknamed Boniface, meaning "good deeds") was born around 680 a.d., near Crediton in Devonshire, England. He served as the director of a school in Nursling (in Winchester), where he wrote the first Latin grammar in England, and gave lectures that were widely copied and circulated.
After being ordained, Boniface traveled to Hesse and Bavaria for missionary work. In Hesse, in the presence of a large crowd of pagans, he cut down the Sacred Oak of Geismar, a tree of immense age and girth, sacred to the god Thor. It is said that after only a few blows of his axe, the tree tottered and crashed to the ground, breaking into four pieces and revealing itself to be rotted away within. It was the beginning of a highly successful missionary effort, and the planting of a vigorous Christian church in Germany, where Boniface was eventually consecrated bishop.
In his old age, Boniface traveled to Friesland, and found considerable success preaching among the Frisians. On June 5, 754 (the eve of Pentecost), St. Boniface was "preparing a group of Frisians for confirmation when they were attacked and killed by heathen warriors," (Society of Archbishop Justus).

What is the Solemnity of Corpus Christi?
The fact that the Church celebrates the solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ makes good sense, given the Eucharist’s centrality in the life of the Church, neatly described by the Catechism of the Catholic Church as the “sum and summary of our faith” (No. 1327). And there’s the Second Vatican Council’s famous reiteration of this reality in the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, calling the Eucharist the “source and summit of the Christian life” (Lumen Gentium, No. 11). These truths about the Eucharist seem to be at the heart of why the medieval saint Juliana of Liège was moved to guide the Church toward celebrating this yearly solemnity, more commonly known as Corpus Christi.
