Sunday Mass General Obligation Restored
Bishop Edward Weisenburger restored the Sunday and Holy Day Mass obligation effective July 1. Last year, public health guidance kept people from group activities, so Bishop dispensed from the obligation to relieve us temporarily from the spiritual duty.
BRIEFLY what it means to you:
1. All healthy Catholics are obliged to return to participation in Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. Vigil Mass participation fulfills the obligation.
2. Those with a chronic health condition are exempt.
3. Those who provide direct care for the vulnerably ill are exempt.
4. Those with a compromised immune system are exempt.
5. Those with any other health condition that leaves them unable to be vaccinated are exempt.
6. As always (including before the pandemic), anyone who is sick or feels sick on any given weekend Mass day, is expected to exercise good judgment and exhibit care and concern for their fellow parishioners and remain home.
St. Thomas the Apostle Parish will continue to provide live stream Sunday Mass online for those who are exempt (numbers 2 - 6) and cannot join us in person.
