Hello first grade families! I cannot believe that it is October already! Where has time gone? The first graders have been working hard every day!
We are learning the following in each subject area. :
ELA- This week in reading we are going to be working making predictions when we read. We will keep working on what a complete sentence consists of. Keep sending those reading log backs on Fridays. We are going to be trying something new in order to hopefully increase the number of reading logs that are coming back, as lately there have not been many that have been returned. Now when the first graders return their reading logs it not only counts as a mile towards our destination, Oakland,California, but they will not be earning a play dollar for every mile they read. The students will then have a chance to use their money towards something at "Miss Sines' Convenient Store", because what road trip is complete without a stop to fill up on gas and get some treats to tie you over on a long trip. The convenient store will have things like snack, drinks, or a chance to get a prize from the prize box. I am hoping this increases the number of reading logs returned. The spelling list this week will all have short vowel i in them.
Math- We will begin our next chapter as we took our chapter two test on Thursday. We will begin talking all about strategies that we can use to solve addition problems!
Social Studies-We will be talking about what it takes to be a good citizen. We started talking today about laws and whose job it is to enforce our laws. The first graders did a great job of coming up with a KWL chart about what they know about citizens and what it takes to be a good citizen. We will also be looking at who is in charge of citizens and the different character traits that make up a good citizen.
Other notes:- Thank you to everyone who has brought snack so far this school year. Next week it will be Isabelle's turn to bring snack.
