Dear Parishioners,
Mark your calendars for Sunday, June 20. Following the 8 am and 10 am Masses, the Parish Council will be sponsoring Donut Sunday, which will occur just outside Boland Hall. The Parish Council is taking on this task as the first step in welcoming our parishioners back after the long pause of social events caused by the pandemic. All are welcome, but we certainly hope our parishioners will make a concerted effort to join fellow parishioners in fellowship.
Over the past few weeks, we have lost a few very devoted parishioners. Thomas Jeffery passed away on May 18 and is survived by his beloved wife Suzanne. Together, Tom and Suzanne have been the faces of welcome and hospitality for the Cathedral for many years, serving as Sunday and special event ushers, assisting with Parish Coffee and Donuts, and lending helping hands at most parish events and gatherings. Prior to devoting herself to caring for Tom during his illness, Suzanne was also a member of the Health Ministry, the Welcoming and Hospitality Committee, the Prayer Shawl Ministry, and was a founding member and coordinator of the Ladies of the Cathedral. As soon as the details for Tom's funeral are known, I will pass them on to you.
And we bid a final farewell to another parishioner this weekend at the Memorial Mass for Rita Sheftall, a true celebration of a beautiful and faith-filled life. I would kindly as you to please keep both of these families in your prayers as they mourn these difficult losses.
Last Sunday we celebrated the feast of Corpus Christi. This Solemnity is inseparable from the Holy Thursday Mass of Lord’s Supper, in which the institution of the Eucharist is also celebrated. While on the evening of Holy Thursday we relive the mystery of Christ who offers himself to us in the bread broken and wine poured out, today, in celebration of Corpus Christi, this same mystery is proposed for the adoration and meditation of God's people. The Blessed Sacrament is carried in procession through the streets of towns and villages, to show that the risen Christ walks among us and guides us toward the kingdom of heaven.

This Weekend's Pulpit Announcements
After being on hiatus for over a year, Donut Sunday returns to the Cathedral! Parishioners and their guests are invited to join us after both the 8 am and 10 am Masses next Sunday, June 20, for refreshments and fellowship. Please see the bulletin for more info.
UPDATE
COVID-19 Guidelines
To Archdiocesan Parishes:
The mask mandate now only applies to all parish faithful who have not received a vaccination against the COVID-19 virus. Following the CDC guidance issued yesterday, capacity restrictions and social-distancing measures at archdiocesan parishes will be determined by the parish pastor based on the size and construct of the parish and what he deems is needed to provide for the safest possible environment. These changes in the guidance are effective immediately.
Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski leaves in place the dispensation for Sunday Mass at this time but will be re-evaluating the need for the dispensation in the coming weeks.
What does this mean for the Cathedral Basilica?
- Masks are required to be worn only by those who have not received a vaccination against the COVID-19 virus. Those who are fully vaccinated need not wear a mask but may do so if they wish.
- Most of the available seating within the Cathedral has been opened up. However, some pews in a particular section of the Cathedral will remain blocked off in order to accommodate parishioners and visitors who wish to continue practicing a certain level of Social Distancing. This may be amended as we move forward. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the rectory.
- Communion on the tongue will continue to be distributed at the Communion Rail for the foreseeable future.
