Habemus Principalem Blessed Sacrament Parish and School announces that we have hired Nicole Kuhlman to be the principal beginning August 1, 2021. Nicole has served as a teacher in our school for the past four years. Prior to that, she was a teacher at Little Flower for 17 years. Nicole received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Quincy University and her masters from Illinois Benedictine at Springfield. Nicole grew up in Quincy, IL. Her home parish was St. Mary’s (now known as Blessed Sacrament). This year, our school will begin its ninety sixth year. It officially opened on August 31, 1925 with 284 students. Even before the church was constructed, the parishioners built and established the school.
From the beginning, Catholic education has been a priority in this parish. Our goal is to teach the Catholic faith and instill Catholic values in lives of our youth. The quality of education must be excellent and the environment must foster and encourage learning. Thousands of students, including many priests and religious have graduated from this school. Our hope is that this reputation will continue for years to come. Good leadership, dedication, a love for our children, and trust in our God are the ingredients needed for this to happen. We welcome Nicole and pray for her as she begins her new role.
Congratulations to Nick Sables, a member of Boy Scout Troop 312, who recently received the Eagle Scout at a ceremony held here at Blessed Sacrament. This is the highest award given in the scouting program. For his project, Nick, along with family and friends, painted the map of the United States on the blacktop next to the school. This map provides a fun way for students to learn about the states that make up our nation. Thank you for your project and gift to our parish.
Fathers’ Day Please remember all fathers this weekend as we celebrate Fathers’ Day in our nation. The role of a father is to provide guidance and love to his children in order that they might grow to develop the skills needed to live peaceful and productive lives. It is not an easy task. Pray that fathers everywhere will accept this challenge and be a positive and valuable influence in the formation of our young.
