We need your help the weekend of June 26 & 27 to end hunger and poverty. Bread for the world is a collective Christian advocacy organization that urges Congress to pass legislation to end hunger and poverty. Perhaps you have heard about this fantastic endeavor to boost nutrition to thousand’s of food-insecure families? Perhaps you know how Bread works with hundreds of Christian congregations around the country to write letters to Congress asking for their help to end hunger and poverty. This is one way to our faith into action. This year we intend to put our faith in action by hosting a letter-writing campaign to our elected members of congress.
We want them to know that relieving hunger and poverty is something we all share in common. The weekend of June 26 & 27 we will start our campaign of letters that will focus on making the expansion of the child tax credit in the American Rescue Plan permanent and available to all children regardless of immigration status. The CTC expansion will lift millions of children out of poverty, as well as help reduce hunger and narrow the racial wealth gap exacerbated by unemployment amid COVID-19. And secondly, to increase U.S. leadership and funding for global nutrition programs without which an entire generation may be denied of their God-given right to flourish.
Part of my formation for the Diaconate is to dedicate time to serve the poor. Please join me on Saint Simon Street, June 26 from 5:00 pm-5:20 pm and after Mass until 7:00 pm and on June 27 before and after all Masses, until 12:30 pm.
I will have paper, pens, letter templates, a couple of laptops for electronic letters, and a special gift for each person.
Peace and God bless
Jim Wood
St. Simon parishioner and candidate for Diaconate of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis
