Each week I search the best of the internet for sacred choral music that aligns with the Weekend's scripture readings and post several selections on our website at Choral Music Worth Hearing.
The Gospel this week needs no introduction. Jesus calms the seas when a storm threatens to sink the boat in which he and his disciples are sitting.
He gives them exactly what they need, at the time when they need it. Safety. Security. Peace. Stillness.
Surely we could all stand to do a better job of resting in God's saving refuge...
Yet, we continue to cry out when waves rock our boats.
Perhaps the words of this week's Communion antiphon will resonate:
The eyes of all look to you...
and you give them their food in due season....
The following choral anthem sets these very words:
The eyes of all wait upon Thee, and Thou givest them their meat in due season.
The peacefulness of the music has a way of quieting the inner turmoil. And this choir's performance is extraordinary. They embody stillness.
Spend two minutes with it and let the sounds envelop. Perhaps your inner sea will be calmed.
Enjoy.
