Who is this man we call father yet does not live with us? Do we get to have two fathers or three, four or more? Why does this father live in the house by the church and not with us? Why does everyone else call him father also? Can one man have so many children?
Who is this man?
He is always there to help us in whatever way we need. He begins his journey with us by claiming us for Christ through our baptism. He nurtures us each week at Sunday Mass with homilies, blessings, teachings, and understanding not only for us but also for our parents. He teaches us about our religion and how to get close to and stay close to our God. He gives us our First Holy Communion. He stands as witness and proud father when we receive our Confirmation. He marries us when we have found that perfect mate or guides us if we are blessed to have a vocation to the spiritual life. He gives us life’s final blessing when it is time for us to return to our heavenly home.
Again, I ask, who is this man we call father yet does not live with us?
The answer is simple – he is someone who has answered God’s call to be a priest, a father to us, God’s children, young and old.
Happy Father’s Day!
