Promises of Christ "Whatever you ask for in faith, you will receive." Matthew 21:22
When we pray the Rosary, in the concluding prayer, we ask Mary, the mother of God, to pray for us with these words:
"Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ."
Have you ever thought about what those promises might be? Sacred Scripture, the Bible, is packed with the promises of God, promises which are incredibly important for us because they both help ground us and give us hope in times of trouble...and the Church is here to help us on the perilous journey of life.
Timothy, in his First Letter (1 Tim 3:15) stated: "...you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth..."
That "Truth" said to me, to be the moral code of how we are to live our lives. With that said, here are seven promises of Jesus made for us to follow, and they are by no means a complete list, just a beginning,
1) LIFE: "Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For, whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." (Mt. 16:24-25) and " came that they might have life and have it more abundantly." (In 10:10b) LIFE: We discover life as it was intended to be.
2) ACCEPTANCE: "Moreover, the Father who sent me has testified on my behalf. But you have never heard his voice or seen his form, and you do not have his word remaining in you, because you do not believe in the one whom he sent." (Jn 6:37-38) ACCEPTANCE: Christ's invitation is intended for each of us.
3) REWARD: "Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this pre sent age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come." (Mk 10:29-30). REWARD: Jesus wants us to know that our sacrifices are not in vain.
4) REVELATION: "Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him." (Jn 14:21) REVELATION; Jesus promises us that when we obey him, he will always be at our side.
5) FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD: "You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father." (Jn 15:14-15)
------
6) JOY: "If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete." (Jn 10-11)
-----
7) TRIALS: "You have followed my teaching, way of life, purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, and sufferings,... In fact, all who want to live religiously in Christ Jesus will be persecuted." (2Tim 3:10-12)
