Have you seen our new ads for the Gabriel Project? They are on the sides of San Francisco Muni buses, highway billboards and on social media. The parish-based Archdiocesan ministry is a personal outreach to pregnant women in need of help. Thanks and prayers go to the wonderful marketing and creative folks at Random Acts of Catholics who gave their time and talent to help women and babies.
The fight over whether to write a new document on the Eucharist and worthiness to receive holy Communion grabbed national headlines last week but America's Catholic bishops made quite a few other decisions. Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone spoke strongly in favor of a new eucharistic coherence document and issued a statement (to be found
here). CruxNow's John Allen has an analysis
here. The bishops also approved a framework for a pastoral plan on marriage and family and authorized development of a new formal statement and comprehensive vision for Native American and Alaskan Native ministry.
California will pay off all past-due rent that accumulated during the COVID pandemic -- that's the promise from Gov. Gavin Newsom this week. The plan is to help renters and make landlords whole using federal funds. State officials haven't yet decided whether they'll extend California's eviction moratorium, which is set to expire on June 30.
