As many of you have heard, one of our Jaguar families was affected by the events that transpired just outside of Cedar Rapids on Sunday evening. Will Halverson, a seven year veteran of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, was first to respond to the call and was injured during the line of duty. Will is the husband of Susie and father to Madeline (4th grade), Adrian (Kindergarten), and Julia (2.5 years old).
The latest update from the Halverson family is below:
As many have heard, Will was shot multiple times in the line of duty on Sunday while responding to a robbery call. From the moment that terrible knock came at my door, I have found nothing but support and love. I am beyond grateful to everyone for the help they are giving: To the deputies and paramedics that aided him at the scene. To the medical team that transported him and stabilized him at the hospital. To every single person in his LEO family that has brought us food and toys for the kids and offered to do anything we need. To the officers that searched relentlessly until the criminal was captured and ensured he is no longer free. To the officers that have sat at his bedside and our house ensuring our safety. To the surgeons who have repaired his injuries. To the nurses and all the staff that have helped him. To every person who has messaged and prayed and sent good thoughts his way. To the friends that have helped distract my kids. To both of our families for being at our house and reassuring our kids that their dad is safe and will be home. And to God, most of all, for watching over Will because as bad as this could have been, he is alive and so very lucky that things weren't worse.
Will has completed the surgery he needed to repair his injuries and was transferred out of the ICU today. He is in good spirits (as he always is) and resting. There will be a long road to recovery, but this week has assured me, we will have help whenever we need it.
Many in our community wish to help the Halverson family. We have identified ways you are invited to do so below:
A rosary for Will and family will be said as a community of faith on Thursday, June 24th beginning at 4PM. Rosary will be said at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2244 1st Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
Please continue to pray for Will’s continued recovery and for his family.
