On Thursday, October 12th at 2:16, we received a call from a detective with the Newark police department stating that there was a suspect on foot in our neighborhood with a gun. We immediately announced for students to remain in building, locked doors, and began delaying dismissal. Within 10 minutes, we were notified that the suspect was apprehended and taken away. We then walked the perimeter before releasing any children to buses and cars at pick up. Our response was quick and professional, and calmly and carefully followed protocol that we have in place for the safety of the children and faculty.
We also wanted you to know that we have recently been meeting with the mayor and his directors, and city council members to restrict or close access to the Pearl Street footbridge. We believe this bridge is problematic to the security of our community and facilities.
Let us all pray and give thanks to God for His providential care of our parish and school and His continued guidance for the healing of our human society.
Thank you and Many Blessings,
Sally Mummey
