I mentioned in the Orientation Meeting that we were not requiring parents to be in the classrooms as volunteers this year but we still need your support. My foremost need is to fill the weekly support needs. I would like to be sure there are no open signs ups between now and December on the Sign Up Genius lists. The links to the sign ups are available on the classroom program webpage on the parish website.
In addition, I would love parents to assist with the planning and decorating for special events and to take photos in the classrooms and at special events. You can sign up for those options by completing the form at the bottom of the page here.

SAINT PARADE & PRAYER - Due Nov. 1st/2nd (whichever day you have class)
Last week I spoke with the children about our theme - Jesus, the Way and how Jesus is our role model. This week I will introduce the Saints as Super Heroes in our Church who serve as role models too! On Nov. 1st and 2nd we will be holding an All Saints Day Parade and Prayer Service in honor of All Saints Day! I am asking you to complete homework with your child. This is an opportunity to help your child pick a saint that they can look up to as a role model.
1. Research a patron (name patron or favorite hobby) or favorite saint with your child.
2. Have your child prepare a Saint Shrine (see the directions by clicking the blue bar below or I will also have additional copies available at the Opening Gathering this week)
3. Your child can dress up like their Saint or bring in a symbol of their saint for our parade.
4. We hope you will join us for our parade and prayer during our Opening Gatherings on Nov. 1st or 2nd.
After the prayer service, we will post the shrines in the hallway for the month of November. Be sure to come and look at them!

ATM MITTEN HAT TREE - Due November 15/16
Jesus, the Way tells us to take care of the poor and those in need through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. Throughout the year we will present the children with opportunities to live their faith through the Works of Mercy. We will participate in two large Outreach projects.
The first Elementary Outreach project is the ATM Mitten Hat Tree. This week I will ask the children to think of ways they can earn extra money - through chores, services they can provide like raking leaves, holding bake sales, tag sales or lemonade stands, and more. Over the years the children have been extremely creative with their efforts. I will ask them to use that money to purchase mittens, hats or gloves for a child their age in Appalachia. All donations can be brought to our Opening Gathering on November 15/16. Each year we have filled a Christmas tree to overflowing with over 500 items! We hope to do the same this year. There are some very nice hats and gloves available in the Dollar Tree so this effort should not be a hardship on anyone. Please support your child by discussing options to raise the money, cheering on their efforts and helping them make a purchase.
I hope our At-Home families will participate as well! This has been a wonderful experience for the children and the people in Appalachia are always so grateful for our warm goods!
